RTA Organizes An Anti-Smoking Initiative For The Metro Users In Cooperation With Dubai Health Authority & Prime Medical Center

On the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day, the Administrative Services Department at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector has recently organized an anti-smoking initiative targeting the users of Dubai Metro in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority and Prime Medical Center. The initiative is directly sponsored by Dollar Rent A Car Group and Al Ahli Driving Center, which submitted discount cards of AED 500, as well as Kaladari Driving Center.

Director of the Administrative Services at the Authority Ahlam Al Feel highlighted the constant keenness of the RTA to support all efforts that aim at developing the public health level and enhancing individuals’ performance. This is will be achieved by taking all necessary measures to improve the individuals’ health so that their productivity would increase and their involvement in development and construction becomes more efficient and influential.

“The Anti-Smoking Initiative comprises (10) steps that enable smokers to gradually, smoothly and permanently quit it according to a timetable by following these steps and instructions which were based on field studies and surveys. The surveys included both heavy smokers and light smokers, the reasons for their failure to quit smoking in addition to their attempts to take the first steps to stop,” she said.

“The Initiative was implemented with a wide participation of the public who use the public means of transportation and the Authority’s employees in the Metro’s Al Rashidiya, Al Ittihad, Noor Islamic Bank, Al Emarat Mall stations, where Prime Medical Center conducted blood pressure and smoking tests to measure participants’ nicotine levels by using a lung respiratory testing medical device.

Meanwhile, the Administrative Services Department distributed brochures and flyers warning of the smoking’s bad consequences and presented instructions and useful advice to quit such bad habit.

Director of the Administrative Services pointed out that the family, society, government and semi-government institutions and agencies in addition to private corporations are all playing an important role in this field by unifying efforts through all channels of corporate social responsibility. She noted that this would play an important and effective role in achieving the noble goal while working on launching different initiatives, workshops as well as promotional and awareness campaigns that urge the society and individuals to enhance their self-determination and take the first step to quit smoking.

On their part, the participants signed a loyalty pledge to contribute to fighting this phenomenon, and extended their thanks and gratitude to the Roads and Transport Authority for this initiative and generous gesture towards all segments of the society to help them quit smoking and enjoy good health. This will ultimately and positively affect the society at the health, economic, social and family levels as a result of the physical and psychological benefits achieved by quitters of smoking.
