Shoppers From Around The World Throng Deira City Centre For Dubai Shopping Festival
(12 January 2014)

Be it incredible shopping trips, unforgettable events or the excitement of winning life changing prizes – the 19th edition of the world’s most awaited shopping extravaganza is taking visitors and residents by storm. Featuring amazing discounts of up to 75% at more than 70 shopping malls and over 6,000 shops – the DSF 2014 offerings are ensuring that visitors relish the “Shop At Your Best” experience every day.

One of the most popular shopping hubs of Dubai – Deira City Centre – is welcoming a huge rush of shoppers every day, as several retail outlets in the mall lay out a fabulous array of discounts on quality merchandise including clothing, home décor, fashion accessories and more. Residents and visitors from around the world are descending intheir droves at the mall to explore bargains, rack up on amazing offers or to simply enjoy the uniqueness of the DSF experience.

Phil and Gunilla from Australia are in Dubai for a couple of days to just revisit their memories of the city from the late 1990s - when they lived and worked in Dubai and saw the Dubai Shopping Festival in its primitive stage.

“Dubai is way more accessible now. I love how it is so easy to get around in the city. The taxi drivers speak fluent English and know the directions just right,” said Phil.

“Deira City Centre has always been the ultimate destination for tourists keen on some serious shopping. We used to come here in the late 90s when we lived in Dubai. We wanted to come back here and go down memory lane,” said Gunilla.
Asked about their shopping extravaganzas during the DSF, Phil said: “We went looking for an iPad. My wife is a huge fan of Apple products. We were offered a great price at one of the stores. Even though the store did not have the model in stock, they were prompt in directing us to another store that had the model we wanted. We received exemplary service from the store associates.”

“We also went to the old souq. It’s amazing to be the centre of attention there, with all the shopkeepers inviting you to their stores. It’s a nice experience,” he added.

For Jayant Kumar M. Patel and Ila Patel, Dubai is a stopover as they were travelling from the US to their home in Gujarat, India. The couple was enjoying their time at the mall, visiting the different stores and retail outlets.

“I have been to Dubai six times before. I like the fact that people are very cooperative and friendly here,” said Jayant Kumar.

For Ila, it was her first time visiting the emirate and was happy to be in the city when DSF celebrations are in full swing. “We saw some of the performances at the mall. I really liked them. I would definitely like to re-visit Dubai and spend more time,” she said.

Chandrabhan and Rashmi, another couple from the Indian capital city, were trawling through the mall with their little son Soham, making the most of the DSF shopping offers.

“We are here for the Dubai Shopping Festival. We have a big shopping list and while we have crossed off some items, there’s still a lot remaining. We are loving the experience,” said Rashmi.

“Dubai has so much to offer even in the form of entertainment. We were at the Burj Khalifa and were spellbound by the Fountain Show – it will be an unforgettable memory for us. We also visited the Global Village and loved the experience there as well,” she added.

Chandrabhan also participated in one of the DSF Mega Raffles and hopes to win a grand prize before he heads back to New Delhi. The couple plans to take Soham to some of the children’s events that are kicking off at many different locations in the city during the DSF.

While families are taking advantage of the unbeatable promotions, many friends are also getting together to be a part of all the excitement. Azeb Sebhatu and Lidya Mebrahtu, two young ladies from Eritrea in East Africa, who live in Dubai, were having a blast as they indulged in the DSF shopping offers.

“There are discounts on everything. The DSF shopping experience is great,” they said, as they took home several shopping bags filled with quality merchandise purchased on reduced prices.

Jovan and Amor from the Philippines are on a mission to find that perfect designer wristwatch as they explore several watch stores at the mall.

“With the DSF, there’s a plenty of good offers up for grabs and we hope we can find a good bargain on a watch for Amor,” said Jovan who lives in Dubai.

“We also loved the magic show that we saw at the mall. We are having a great time,” he added.

Whether it is that perfect watch, the perfect dress or the perfect car – the 19th edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival is pulsating in every nook and corner of the city, with its promise to provide the ultimate experience for shopaholics from around the world. DSF 2014 launched on January 2 and will go on till February 2.
