Dubai Does It Again-This Time It’s A Vertical Catwalk On Burj Khalifa

DSF Rises In Isolated Splendour With First Ever Feat Of Its Kind On The World’s Tallest Building. Sensational Event Follows The Longest Catwalk At The Dubai Mall During DSF 2012 And Express Fashion On Dubai Metro At DSF 2013.


 

Living up to its international reputation as a city of many firsts, Dubai once again raised the bar further – this time in the world of fashion – by staging the very first Vertical Catwalk on the world’s tallest building the Burj Khalifa on Monday night.

The exclusive invitation-only fashion show, staged in partnership with Etoile “La boutique”, and in association with the Burj Khalifa and Paris Gallery, presented haute couture creations from leading brands in a spectacularly choreographed aerial extravaganza. The DSF Vertical Catwalk, has taken Dubai’s fashion scene to glorious new heights, following the unparalleled Express Fashion on the Metro at DSF 2013 and the Longest Catwalk, another extraordinary fashion event at DSF 2012 that was held at The Dubai Mall.

The audience – made up of an ensemble of distinguished personalities from the local, regional and international fashion arena, as well as a global media corps of more than 100 journalists – held their breath in excited anticipation as six acrobats dressed in shimmery body suits and suspended from waist harnesses strutted down the vertical ramp. The agile performers executed stunning mid-air maneuvers – descending the side of the Burj Khalifa in tandem, twirling in unison and performing energetic sequences with coloured sashes and at one point, with giant DSF shopping bags.

The aerial performers were joined by 10 models on the ramp extending onto the Armani Pavilion, who showcased a dazzling array of more than 40 Spring/Summer looks presenting the season’s latest trends including demure lace creations, casual sporty threads, statement geometric designs, floral pieces and the ever-popular monochrome look, with hair and make-up done by Paris Gallery.

The runway collections were presented by Etoile “La boutique” a leading multi-brand store with a presence in the UAE, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Founded by Ingie Chalhoub, CEO of Etoile Group, trendsetter and pioneer for luxury brands in the Middle East for more than twenty five years, Etoile “La boutique” offers the hottest mix of fashion brands for the Middle Eastern and international woman.The blend of brands on display during the show covered the most covetable pieces from emerging and internationally-established designers such as Ingie Paris, Christian Dior, Prabal Gurung, Alaia, Issa, Amanda Wakeley, Raoul, Collette Dinnigan, Safiyaa, Kotur, Elizabeth & James.

The collections included a striking mix of sheaths, gowns, ladylike-50’s inspired circle dresses and skirt suits in a palette of pale pink, blush, mint, sea green, tangerine and coral, with a burst of shimmer thrown into the mix with silver, gold and jewel-toned accents and trendy touches like shimmery acrylic patches and belts pulling the looks together.

Burj Khalifa provided a lofty backdrop for this unique fashion event that brought to life the glamorous and glitzy side of the DSF theme “Shop at your Best” which aims to enrich the shopping experiences of visitors to Dubai during DSF 2014. The show was staged following a precision practice run in the hours preceding the main event to ensure a perfectly synchronized performance.

Organized by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), the 19th edition of the DSF commenced on January 2 and will go on until February 2 under the theme “Shop at Your Best’.
