MD & CEO Of DEWA Receives Senior Delegation From Al-Futtaim Motors
(18 May 2014)

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received Len Hunt, President of the Automotive Group, alongside a delegation of senior members from Al-Futtaim Motors including: Jon Williams, Managing Director; Nigel Johnson, Managing Director – Rental and Leasing; and Abdul Nasser Al Marzouqi, General Manager of Government Legal Affairs. The visit follows DEWA’s ongoing cooperation with Al Futtaim Motors and its support for DEWA’s initiatives that promote sustainable development, and especially the project that includes establishing charging stations for electric vehicles, and the infrastructure required to operate them.

DEWA focuses on creating a robust energy infrastructure to support the Emirate’s efforts to host the World Expo 2020, and contribute to the strengthening of infrastructure and service facilities to the highest standards, meeting the basic needs of individuals and organisations.

Al Tayer welcomed the delegation, mentioning that in line with the ‘Smart Government’ initiative, which is aimed at transforming Dubai into one of the most connected cities in the world within three years, DEWA launched three new smart initiatives to strengthen its role in sustainable energy, fortifying its position as an industry leader.

The meeting also focused on encouraging and supporting partnerships with the private sector to create jobs and investments to transform Dubai into a smart and sustainable city.

“The Dubai Smart initiative builds on the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to transform to the Emirate into smartest city in the world, and promote sustainable development, making it a world model, especially in security and energy efficiency, and investment in low-carbon and renewable energy. DEWA launched a project to establish electric vehicles charging stations in various parts of the Emirate, and also to enhance the efficiency of the grid. DEWA will continue to install and manage the infrastructure needed to supply these vehicles with electric power. DEWA will also seek to reduce air pollution and protect the environment from the impact of the transportation industry, and create the necessary infrastructure in cooperation with various stakeholders, including car manufacturers, airports, Dubai Municipality, shopping centres, petrol stations, RTA, hotels, parking areas, and more,” said Al Tayer.

The delegation confirmed their support to DEWA’s projects and initiatives focused on developing and deploying renewable energy technologies and solutions, and clean technologies. The delegation thanked Al Tayer for the reception as well as discussing future collaborations with DEWA.
