DAMAC Properties Joins Dubai Metro Naming Rights
(17 September 2014)

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a partnership agreement with DAMAC Properties whereby the latter has joined naming rights of the Dubai Metro Stations and sealed the naming right of the Dubai Marina Station on the Metro Red Line. Thus the giant property company has become a key part of the development process that the RTA seeks to materialize through the metro project which contributed significantly to revolutionizing the traditional concept of sponsorship and branding to a more advanced and comprehensive branding partnership.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the RTA by Abdullah Yousef, CEO of the Rail Agency; and on behalf of DAMAC by Hussain Sajwani, Chairman and CEO of DAMAC Properties; in the presence of Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of RTA Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector, among other officials from both parties.

Abdulla lauded the joining of DAMAC Properties, which is one of Dubai’s largest real estate developers, the naming rights of the Metro project, by securing the naming right of the Dubai Marina Station. Such a move is a testament to the success of the Naming Rights Project, which has captured the attention of the key businesses in the UAE; which in turn reflects the community awareness as regards the local and international brand names and the need of enhancing the investment potentials for brand owners, and ultimately contributes to promoting the metro services in an innovative and distinguished manner.

“The DAMAC station is characterized by several geographical features including its strategic & touristic location in Dubai, as it serves around 100,000 people in Dubai, besides being an intersection station with the Dubai Tramway when it opens later in November this year,” added Abdulla.

Hussain Sajwani, Chairman and CEO of DAMAC Properties, said: “The Dubai metro has proved to be a model for the success of mass transit systems in the Emirate, and we pride ourselves on renaming the Dubai Marina station as DAMAC Station, given the strategic location of the station amongst key touristic & residential districts in Dubai Marina. Four of our projects, the Marina Terrace-the Waves, Ocean Heights and DAMAC Heights are a short distance From the DAMAC station.”

Sajwani was hugely impressed with the partnership with the RTA in this mega project which reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, stressing the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors towards realizing the objectives that add to the interest of the community and individuals;

It is worth-mentioning that other stations named after private or public firms on both the Red and Green Lines are Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre, Etisalat, Gulf General Investment Company (GGICO), Sharaf DG, First Gulf Bank, Nakheel, The Palm Deira, Nakheel Harbour & Tower, Dubai Airport Free Zone, Noor Bank, Burjuman Center, and Danube Company.
