RTA Celebrates World Quality Day And Completes 137 Audit Processes In 2014
(2 January 2015)

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has celebrated the World Quality Day through a workshop held at RTA Auditorium attended by scores of employees with the aim of highlighting the concept and connotations of quality as well as the latest techniques of upgrading business processes.

Ms. Shaikha Al Jarman, Director of Development and Corporate Performance at the RTA said: “The workshop was started by a visual presentation about RTA’s achievements conducted by Ms. Hanan Al Hamiri, Acting Manager of Quality Section at RTA’s Development and Corporate Performance Department. She narrated the quality certificates and awards clinched by the RTA along with the results of audit processes undertaken last year (2014) where 137 audit jobs about quality have been carried out across RTA’s sectors & agencies, which accounted for 97% of the targeted figure estimated to cover as much as 90% of jobs performed at the RTA level. The presentation also touched on the compliance of organizational units with the implementation of improvement measures required within the prescribed timeline.

“The workshop included a valuable input from Ms. Rolla Raya, Director of Marketing at the American Society for Quality (ASQ) in Dubai who spoke about the benefits of membership in the ASQ citing that the RTA is considered the first government entity in the Middle East and North Africa to be privileged with the membership of the ASQ. She pointed out that the library of the ASQ in Dubai has more than 150 thousand references and scientific materials about the concept of quality from which RTA’s employees can draw full benefits; which will also support RTA’s drive in nurturing knowledge management.

“The workshop also included a movie about international events such as the disaster of the Chernobyl reactor in the Russian Federation, the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, and other disasters that reflect the price paid in the loss of lives, resources, goals and aspirations due to poor implementation of quality principles,” she stated.

Al Jarman noted that the workshop adopted an unconventional approach as it opened the door for attendees to pose questions and inquired about some quality conceptions where the RTA received several responses to which the RTA provided full explanations and detail.  Moreover, a contest was held at the workshop level along with a cultural contest through the intranet about quality conceptions during the Quality Week lasting four days. “We were thrilled with the huge response generated by the contest from the participants in the workshop; which reflects that the concept of quality has become an integral part of the culture of a vast number of people in view of its growing role in improving the level of services delivered to the public and bringing happiness to people,” concluded the Director of Development and Corporate Performance.
