Foremarke Pupils ’At The Top’ Of The Burj Khalifa For A Special Writer’s Workshop
(5 May 2015)

Some parents may worry that their children do not get enough time and opportunities to get their creative juices flowing in this age of autocorrect, texting and tablets. However there are many opportunities and initiatives that give children the chance to display their talents and one such initiative is Lend Me Your Literacy.

Lend Me Your Literacy is an online platform where children from our school have their work published on the internet on a weekly basis, to be seen by almost two hundred countries worldwide. This initiative works with schools to raise the writing standards and motivate young writers, and Foremarke school is proud to be a member of such an inspirational initiative.

Through Lend Me Your Literacy, a competition was launched, the prize being the first writers' workshop at the top of the Burj Khalifa. More than 230 children sent entries to both categories. One being 5-8 year olds and the other 9-12 year olds, with only a very small number of children being selected to attend the workshop. Foremarke was proudly represented by three of their pupils, one in the age group of 5-8 year olds and the two in the second age group.

“The standard of writing amongst all of our children here at Foremarke is exceptionally high. Through quality teaching, we instill in the children a love of reading and a confidence to use and apply the most challenging vocabulary to their written work. We were delighted that three of our children were invited to attend the Lend Me Your Literacy writers' workshop,” commented Alistair Bond, Headmaster at Foremarke School.

“With the recent formal opening of the Holroyd Library, we now boast an impressive range of fiction and non-fiction books; coupled with the inclusion of the latest technology including Macbook Pro laptops and iPads, it will allow children to use the library as a true learning resource. The standard of literacy within our school can only continue to grow and reach new heights,” he added.
