Arab Health And Wellness: Dubai Health Authority Sponsors World Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress
(16 September 2015)

In support of an aggressive campaign that has already welcomed more than 260,000 health and wellness travelers in the first half of this year to the emirate in the Middle East, Dubai Health Authority will sponsor the 8th World Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress, Sept. 27-30, 2015, in Orlando, Fla., the Medical Tourism Association announced today.

Dubai Health Authority reports that medical tourism to Dubai generated Dh1billion in revenue during the first six months of 2015, up 12 percent from the previous year. By 2020, Dubai Health Authority anticipates its medical tourism industry to grow annually to 500,000 patients and generate Dh 2.6 million in revenue.

Healthcare seekers contemplating value-based treatment overseas have ranked Dubai among the most attractive destinations for medical tourism, according to a global index published by the International Healthcare Research Center. Dubai boasts more than 2,700 healthcare facilities, among them Al Zahra Hospital Dubai, Canadian Specialist Hospital and MEDCARE Hospital Dubai, all of which will be participating at the Arab Health and Wellness Summit, Sept. 28, 2015, at the Orange County Convention Center, the Congress site in Orlando.

The Arab Health and Wellness Summit will examine medical tourism from the Middle East, the rise in non-communicable and chronic disease and the challenges insurances entities face in penetrating Gulf Cooperative Council markets. Regional participants in the Summit include the Health Mission of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare, Oman Insurance Company, Health Union Insurance of Dubai, Kuwait-Qatar Insurance Company, Sahara Medical Tourism, and IFA Travel and Tourism of Kuwait among others.

Dubai Health Authority has targeted GCC countries, Africa, Asia, and the United Kingdom for medical tourism packages that include hotel stays and flight tickets for foreign patients and discounted rates for certain treatments for Middle East residents.

Rene-Marie Stephano, President of the Medical Tourism Association, said in addition to the Arab Health and Wellness Summit, the Congress agenda also features the 6th Global Ministerial Summit, the 4th Medical Directors Summit, the 3rd Global Women's Leadership Summit, regional and industry forums, and educational workshops included among more than 1,000 networking meetings for up to 200 qualified buyers of healthcare. Participants, sponsors and invited speakers can keep abreast of Congress updates at
