RTA Inks Supplementary Agreement With Dubai Police To Ensure Safe Tram Operation
(20 December 2015)

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a supplementary agreement with the General HQ of Dubai Police to further enhance their strategic partnership towards streamlining the tram operation. The ultimate objective of the agreement is to better serve public transport riders in Dubai, particularly users of the Dubai Tram, which was inaugurated by the RTA on 11/11/2014.

The Agreement was signed for RTA by Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency and for the Dubai Police by Colonel Engineer Mohammed Ahmed Abdullah Al Bastaki, Director of Transport Security, General HQ of Dubai Police, in the presence of several directors and managers from both parties.

“We are grateful to have this Agreement signed with one of our top strategic partners, the Dubai Police, as it paves the way for concerted efforts of both parties to attain the highest security & safety levels for users of the Dubai Tram as well as surrounding areas,” said Abdul Mohsen. “The Agreement provides for joint responsibilities related to the streamlining of the tram operation, and attending to emergency services in connection with the Tram. It also sets the base for a solid coordination of the concerned parties with the tram’s operator with a view to assessing risks of accidents in the vicinity of the Tram, and identifying methods of response to potential accidents in order to mitigate their potential impacts,” he noted.

“The RTA will be working closely with the Dubai Police towards implementing this Agreement in order to hit multiple objectives relating to the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the Dubai Tram, protecting the infrastructure of the Tram, avoiding negative impacts, and charting out suitable plans for emergency cases. The Agreement also provides for unleashing public awareness campaigns relating to the activities and roles of each party focused on tram users,” added Abdul Mohsen.

“What had been achieved last year is quite important, yet what we intend to achieve in future is more important. Future deliverables are the product of today’s decision rather than future decisions,” commented Colonel Engineer Mohammed Ahmed Abdullah Al Bastaki, Director of Transport Security, at the General HQ of Dubai Police. “Our shared vision with our strategic partner RTA Rail Agency is to enhance the security of the entire spectrums of the transport sector including facilities and riders. This can only be achieved through undertaking an array of joint initiatives in various business domains. Such initiatives have to support identifiable, measurable, realistic and agreeable objectives with specific timelines. The targets of such initiatives will be periodically monitored by standing committees as well as work teams capable of nurturing common grounds between the two parties of the Agreement,” added Al Bastaki.
