Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature continues to receive entries
(23 July 2016)

Organisers of the Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature have called for applicants who are considering entering the prestigious award programme for this year to ensure that they don’t miss the submission deadline.

Sponsored by Etisalat Group (Etisalat) and organised by the UAE Board on Books for Young people (UAEBBY), the award’s eighth edition is open to receive entries up until the end of August.

One of the most important Arabic children’s literature awards, which comprises five main categories worth a total of AED one million, the Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature aims to support the children’s books industry in the UAE. Not only does it honour unique children’s books which address modern issues and enrich the children’s literature landscape, but it also encourages publishers, authors and illustrators to be innovative in their production and publishing of Arabic children’s titles.

Expressing her delight in the response to this year’s award so far, Marwa Al Aqroubi, President of the UAEBBY Executive Board, said, " We are extremely happy with the number of entries we have received so far for the eighth edition of the Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature, both for its Children’s category and Young Adults’ category. I would urge all authors and publishers who are considering entering but have yet to start the process to do so as a matter of urgency so that they don’t miss the deadline, which is August 31."

"I can confirm that the award’s sorting committee has already started working to ensure that submitted entries are properly evaluated in order to establish the best titles which will best provide cultural and literary content that will raise the intellect and capabilities of our children," she added.

Prospective candidates for the award can submit entries in its five categories, which include; ‘Children’s Book of the Year’ worth AED 300,000 to be distributed equally between the author, illustrator and publisher; ‘Young Adult Book of the Year’ valued at AED 200,000 to be distributed equally between the author and publisher and ‘Best Text’, ‘Best Illustration’ and ‘Best Production’ categories worth AED 100,000 each. AED 200,000 from the award is dedicated to organising workshops to build Arabic people capacities in writing and illustration.
