City Centre Deira Empowered 1,000 Women To Test For Cardiovascular Diseases

Following the announcement of complimentary heart health checkups at 19 of Majid Al Futtaim’s shopping malls across the region, City Centre Deira welcomed around 1,000 ladies, who got tested for early detection and preventative measures against cardiovascular diseases. Checks included blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index (BMI) to determine if the women were at risk for heart disease. 

The activity is aimed to raise awareness on the alarming number of cardiovascular diseases faced by women, and part of a regional health campaign called ‘Feel the Beat,’ initiated by Majid Al Futtaim - the leading shopping mall, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East and North Africa.

Until October 14, medical specialists from the Ministry of Health and City Centre Clinic will visit all Majid Al Futtaim shopping malls across the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon and Oman, administering a series of preventative tests for all females.  The next testing in Dubai will take place at City Centre Mirdif on September 8 – 10.

Building awareness for heart health while motivating women across the region to enjoy the benefits of physical activity, Majid Al Futtaim’s UAE malls are setting the sound of healthy heartbeats to music via the latest technology. The month-long initiative will encourage wellness and exercise through the pumping beats of participants’ own hearts, turning each unique heartbeat into a musical track, and will offer visitors access to complimentary preventative screening and professional healthcare advice to prevent cardiovascular diseases.   

Visitors of participating malls: Mall of the Emirates and City Centres Deira, Mirdif, Sharjah and Bahrain are able to record their heartbeat into a personalized soundtrack mixed by a professional DJ. Participants will be guided to a recording booth where a digital stethoscope will be connected to a computer, to create the unique beat. 

The stethoscope will be used to listen, monitor and record the heartbeat (e.g. 60 bpm).  Through a customized app, the DJ will mix the beat within a soundtrack and extract a track from the 500-strong music library (that matches the visitor’s bpm). Each track will then be personalised using special effects to create a unique heartbeat tune for that person.

Participating malls throughout the campaign in the UAE are: Mall of the Emirates; City Centre Mirdif; City Centre Deira; City Centre Ajman; City Centre Fujairah; My City Centre, Nasseriya and City Centre Sharjah.  Shoppers can also participate in screening locations at City Centre Bahrain; City Centre Muscat and City Centre Qurum in Oman, City Centre Alexandria and City Centre Maadi in Egypt, and City Centre Beirut in Lebanon.
