Around 2,000 healthcare experts and industry leaders participate in the Dubai Health Forum
(9 January 2017)

 

The Dubai Health Forum activities kicked off on Monday where 2,000 global healthcare experts and industry leaders came together to share their ideas and experiences that ranged from health technology to disease prevention. 

The two-day event organized by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) was held under the patronage by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minster of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. 

His Excellency Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director general of DHA inaugurated the event that aims to provide a platform to bring together highly respected decision makers, health practitioners, international guest speakers and industry experts to launch next-generation, game-changing technologies in the medical field. 

Al Qatami said that the health sector is one of the most vital sectors that affects people wellbeing and country’s development, which is why the forum aims to bring together healthcare stakeholders to share ideas, perspectives, and forward-thinking trends and acquiring actionable insights regarding Dubai’s future directions in healthcare to name a few. 

The first day of the event featured a session titled Design thinking in Healthcare: Ideas to opportunities by University designer and researcher Glen Hougan. 

Hougan discussed the evolution of design thinking and how it will fit in Dubai’s vision 2021. He said that design thinking is no longer about the product it is about how you manage change.

His Excellency Ahmed Mohammed Obaid Al Saidi, Minister of Health from the Sultanate of Oman and His Excellency Abdulla Al Qahtani, Former Minister of Health, Qatar, took center stage to discuss the role of government in healthcare in ‘The Future of Healthcare, A Minister’s Point of View’ session.

The ministers spoke about the importance of focusing on prevention, investing in human capital and research, the importance linked-gulf collaboration in research. 

His Excellency Abdul Rahman Bin Mohammed Al Owais, UAE Health and Prevention Minister. Al Qwais, also addressed the audience on what measures are being taken to prevent diseases and conditions such as obesity and diabetes. 

Her Excellency Ohood Bint Khalfan Al Roumi Minister of State for Happiness spoke in the conference about how healthcare professionals from both the public and private sectors can work towards spreading happiness 

Mayor Mick Cornett who famously put Oklahoma City on a diet will also attend DHF, where he will reveal how he helped his hometown lose an impressive one million pounds in weight collectively.

Also in attendance is Her Excellency Aisha Bin Basher, Director General of the Smart Dubai Office. She will present her thoughts on the link between smart health services and smart cities. 

 American Haile Thomas is one of the youngest CEOs in the world and will also be one of the speakers. She is the CEO of HAPPY Organisation, which aims to improve the health and well-being of Arizona’s youth through education, outreach and advocacy about proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices. In keeping with the ethos of DHF, Thomas will be representing the younger, future generation of healthcare.

The forum will also feature a Health Technology Park that will feature a TEDx-style platform, where success stories from the private sector will be shared. 

The interactive sessions on day one included topics about 3D printing medicines and drug-loaded medical devices, investment in healthcare and changing the fitness movement for future generations, to name a few. 

It will also include a social media corner, where social media influencers in the field of health will take the center stage to discuss the latest trends and issues in the health sector. 

The future of surgeries aided by robots will be showcased as well as the technological evolution of robotics in the field of health and the evolution of endoscopic surgeries.
