TRA launches new charitable initiatives for Ramadan
(29 May 2017)

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, TRA, today revealed a series of charitable initiatives for the Holy Month of Ramadan. The initiatives target various social groups such as elderly, people of determination, children, workers and orphans, and will be implemented in coordination with the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, and other officially accredited charities in the country.

The initiatives include ‘Eid Happiness’, in cooperation with the Department of Social Services, ‘Zakat Al Fitr’ with Beit Al Khair, ‘Abayati’, organised by the Eve Committee in the TRA, ‘Worker’s Happiness’ aiming to provide shopping vouchers for workers, ‘Iftar Sa’em’ in cooperation with the ERC, ‘Your old - their new’, ‘Friday of Giving’ which includes visiting the orphanage and elderly care centres to deepen the concept of social responsibility as well as enhancing values and principles of care and communication, and ‘medicine for all’, where the TRA has collected excess medicine on the condition that they are not expired, opened or previously used, and do not need special storage conditions. The TRA provides the medicine to those in need through concerned entities.

Additionally, the ‘Knowledge is giving’ initiative, encourages TRA employees to donate their previously owned and read books to be offered for charity auction, and the ‘Breakfast on Us’ initiative which involves the distribution of meals to road users prior to breaking their fast.

Commenting on the initiatives, Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director-General, said, "These initiatives are part of the ‘#Year of Giving’ initiative announced by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in order to provide support and care for targeted groups inside and outside the country. These initiatives reflect the authenticity and culture of the UAE people as well as the deep roots of the virtue of charitable work in the thought and conscience of the UAE people. They constitute a social heritage passed through the generations."

TRA has already begun several charitable activities since the beginning of the year, and has held an interactive workshop on the topics of happiness, positivity, and the ‘#Year of Giving’, attended by employees from various departments. The workshop resulted in several charitable initiatives that will be implemented throughout the year.
