(23 September 2017)
du supports developmental workshops for students in the UAE

Empowering and supporting students in the UAE is regular practice at du. On July 20 and 23, 2017, du’s Senior Director of Happiness, Dr. Mansoor Anwar, held interactive workshops at longstanding partner Zayed University’s World of Works (WOW) Summer Program. Anwar conducted the first interactive session with first-year students and the second with senior students and graduates, where he discussed a number of topics related to a positive working environment.

“As an organisation committed to its employees and our future generations it is our responsibility to lead the youth of today to great new heights, as such we regularly support and provide training and educational initiatives for the youth to excel. We are pleased to have had the opportunity to work together with Zayed University to deliver interactive sessions to students, and discussing how it is important to harbour a positive and happy work environment for all. At du, we strive to provide this for our employees, as their wellness and happiness is of great priority,” said Ibrahim Nassir, Chief Human Capital and Administration Officer.

du strives to support education through practical and vocational orientated learning for students in the UAE. The UAE-based telecommunications has a longstanding relationship with Zayed University and in addition to providing inspirational educational talks to students, du has contributed towards the development of multimedia labs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi campuses.

“At du, we believe in empowering the youth and helping them develop their careers in the workplace, whether that is through training or interactive discussions on happiness and positivity, or mental navigation. We discussed these topics at the World of Works (WOW) sessions because it is important to bring awareness to these topics and help guide the youth into the workplace, which is a large milestone in their lives with a lot of change,” said Dr. Mansoor Anwar. “The UAE has a great Happiness Agenda and at du, we are aligning with this vision. We understand that we have a social responsibility to our employees and we provide a number of services in house to support the well-being of our employees, such as our clinic, gym and healthy vending machines.”

Rashed Al Shamsi, Manager of Alumni & Students Careers Office at Zayed University said, "At Zayed University we are keen to encourage our students to join these activities. They are a great opportunity to take advantage of initiatives launched by major players like du, which is one of the most prestigious and influential companies in the telecommunications sector within the UAE. Furthermore, we aim to enhance our student's skills in areas such as, strategic thinking and planning, which will aid them in their future careers. With this knowledge, our students will be able to base their expectations on a thorough understanding of their own abilities, which will help them move with confidence and take a bold step towards tomorrow.”

Al Shamsi added, “These activities have another dimension, and besides their training and education, they serve as a bridge between university students and the outside community. They also reflect the responsibility that we have as a University when it comes to developing qualified and capable students, that will positively contribute to our future sustainable development. Furthermore, holding these activities during the summer months provides a greater opportunity for students to take part during their annual holidays and fill their leisure time with  positive and fruitful activities.”

This recent collaboration with Zayed University will see du provide a series of developmental workshops. The recent sessions were very interactive between the attendees and Dr. Mansoor, where a number of important topics were discussed. These included tips and insights on how to make positivity a daily ritual in the classroom, and Dr. Mansoor gave additional insight to students on how to rewire the brain for positive behaviour. He also discussed the importance of teamwork in a working environment and how to overcome and prevent bullying, in addition to looking at the different forms of bullying.
