TRA Completes Its Preparations For GITEX Technology Week
(23 September 2017)

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is preparing to launch 14 new innovative projects during its participation in GITEX Technology Week 2017. The projects represent a new series of TRA’s contribution to enhancing a smart lifestyle in the UAE and supporting the transition to knowledge-based economy, through launching qualitative projects that represent a real shift in the method and approach of using new technology to serve people, by providing modern technological solutions related to daily life requirements, using ICTpotentials.

TRA will participate in GITEX Technology Week, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Center, from 8-12 October 2017, under the umbrella of the UAE mGovernment, which will host 22 federal entities, showing their main achievements in the field of using technology to facilitate the provision of government services, customer happiness, in an integrated manner, which promotes the principle of one government and excellent services.

H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, said: ‘TRA has completed its preparations to participate in GITEX Technology Week, reflecting TRA’s leading positions in the process of smart transformation and enhancing a smart lifestyle in the country, in addition to its global leadership in the ICT field, through its innovative enormous projects planned to be presented to the public during GITEX Technology week, as well as enhancing current projects by launching new and more advanced phases.’

H.E. Al Mansoori added: ‘The good reputation that GITEX Technology Week has gained during its successive sessions makes it an important platform for launching innovative and creative ideas, exchanging concepts with various entities, in addition to concluding agreements and partnerships with potential partners.’ He mentioned that TRA’s participation will be an added value to GITEX Technology Week as it always has been.

TRA uses GITEX Technology Week to launch its innovative projects and present them to the public. Additionally, it presents the new phases and developments that TRA has introduced to its previously launched projects, which are characterized by continuity, being service projects that provide quality solutions to problems, or enhance the quality of services, and to achieve the happiness strategy of the UAE.

Examples of the projects and initiatives that TRA intends to present during its participation at GITEX Technology Week this year, ‘Hutaf’ initiative, which represents an innovative solution that contributes to the happiness of people of determination. This initiative is one of TRA’s initiatives in partnership with Al Ain Sports and Cultural Club. It allows sport followers from the people of determination, specifically the blind and visually impaired, to attend and interact with the matches in the stadium. The initiative idea is to provide them with voice commentary about the matches, and thus encourage them to support their favorite club during matches at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium, where Al Ain Club is based.

In the same context, TRA had launched last year ‘Erteqa’ initiative, to evaluate the centers of service providers in the country, with the participation of Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) and Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC (du). The initiative aims to increase the happiness of the customers of telecom service providers in the UAE, and provide them with best services, through implementing quality standards specified by TRA in cooperation with the service providers.

Nevertheless, among the most important initiatives that serve large segments of public and contribute to solving their problems before submitting their complaints, is ‘Coverage’ initiative, in its first and second phases. The initiative is based on conducting regular surveys of services quality of telecommunications network operators in developing areas in the country. It focuses on testing, measuring and analyzing the quality of service in these areas, as well as the new areas, to identify and address weaknesses in coordination with the operators, before the user complaints reach TRA. This would contribute to achieving customer satisfaction and happiness, protecting the interests of subscribers, upgrading the telecom services in the UAE, assuring fast response to failures, and addressing the networks problems.

TRA will also present ‘ICT Rating’ initiative for assessing the quality of ICT services in the most popular tourism places. The initiative has been launched earlier by TRA, to provide a mechanism and criteria for evaluating and rating available services in tourist destinations such as hotels and shopping malls, in accordance with the quality standards of ICT services.

The previous projects and initiatives are still ongoing, and their results have been enhanced. Moreover, a number of astonishing new projects will be launched during the exhibition, and will be accessible to the public and interested visitors during their visit to TRA’s section in the Dubai World Trade Center during GITEX Technology W
