Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmad bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, CEO and Chairman of the Emirates Group, and Chancellor of The British University in Dubai, the University will celebrate on Wednesday December 13, 2017 the graduation of 30 PhD holders and 215 Master graduates. the ceremony will be held in the Cultural and Scientific Association in Al Mamzar- Dubai. This was announced by Professor Abdulla Mohammad Al Shamsi, Vice Chancellor of the British University in Dubai. He added," The University extends its deep appreciation and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, Ruler of Dubai for his support for the University and for his vision for the development of higher education.
This cohort of graduates is considered the biggest in the history of the University in terms of numbers and programmes, for this year witnesses the graduation of its first batch of PhD's in Computer science and Business Management, as well as graduates in Masters in Education, Project Management and Law.
The British University in Dubai was established by a Dubai government decree in 2003 to be the first postgraduate university in the region and has been operating ever since in collaboration with leading UK universities such as the University of Manchester, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, and Cardiff University. The University aims to support scientific research in the UAE it collaborates with many government and private organizations.
The PhD's theses have covered important topics in education whether in primary or public education or university education and higher education in addition to specialisations for people with special and inclusive education, talent management, leadership, national identity, languages and education techniques. For example, Dr. Mariam Al Ghawi studied the subject of assessing the needs for talent management programmes in Dubai while Dr. Aisha Al Aryani and Dr. Mariam Al Hashemi and Dr. Salam Omar have studied the subjects of national identity and Islamic studies in curriculum. Dr. Shaima Al Naqbi studied the factors affecting the Emirati women leadership.
Furthermore, Project Management theses have covered many topics such as Corporates Social Responsibility, elements of readiness in projects and the personal traits of managers in taking risky decisions in change management while Computer Science theses have touched upon electronic security and mobile games.
