Dubai International Academic City's and Dubai Knowledge Park's widely-anticipated 'Week of Welcome' (WOW) has made its annual comeback as the biggest university student festival in the UAE, complete with interactive exhibits, all-day entertainment and free giveaways. Held across both education communities, the event runs from 20 to 22 February in DIAC and 26 to 28 February in DKP.
The 15thedition of WOW, organised by Viva International, celebrates the UAE Month of Innovation & Year of Zayed –central themes relevant to Dubai students.
Open to existing university students and those in their final years of high school, the event is designed to be a platform that enables them to become familiar with the student environment, engage in good fun and learn more about Dubai through cultural activities.
Mohammad Abdullah, Managing Director of DKP and DIAC, said: "DIAC Week of Welcome 2018 provides students the opportunity to appreciate the Dubai culture and get a taste of university lifestyle. We designed this festival for all students in Dubai, from high-schoolers to undergraduates as well as the wider community of family and friends. This special occasion has youths coming together to celebrate UAE's innovation and our founding father Sheikh Zayed's core values of wisdom, respect, sustainability and human development."
Smart Dubai, the city-wide initiative to transform Dubai into the world's smartest and happiest city, is also a leading partner of WOW As part of the UAE Innovation Month, Smart Dubai hosted a line-up of events focusing on the Smart Dubai initiative, including Blockchain and the Happiness Meter.
The Dubai government careers portal, Dubai Careers, is also present at the festival to help connect students to promising career opportunities. Meanwhile, Dubai Police will showcase the top vehicles from its fleet, and Dubai Economy will run awareness sessions on e-trading licensing, which is crucial knowledge for any young entrepreneur. Other participants in WOW are the Department of Economic Development, InnovatorUAE and Dubai Culture, all of whom will showcase various aspects of heritage, innovation, public safety and e-business for all students.
"The youth of today are our future – the presence and participation of important government entities at WOW reinforces the message that Dubai is determined to invest in tomorrow's innovators, entrepreneurs and decision-makers and ensure that they have bright prospects ahead of them," added Abdullah.

At the University Arena in WOW 2018, key university partners of DIAC and DKP present are Amity University, Heriot Watt University, Manipal University, Curtin University as well as external universities such as Rochester, Dubai College, American College of Dubai and many more.
The festival offers live music by a guest DJ and an International Street Food Arena offering a range of cuisines from Asian to Italian. With 2018 as the Year of Zayed, this year's event has a specific emphasis on the cultural heritage of the UAE, including traditional singing, dancing and group performances by the students of DIAC and DKP. Visitors can also expect a series of social media contests, prizes for students' innovative projects worth more than Dhs50,000, creative art competitions and much more.
