RTA And Dubai Police Chart Out Plan For Managing Traffic During Eid Al-Fitr Holidays

THE Events Security Committee of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and  Dubai Police, together with, have set out a plan for managing traffic movement as part of preparations for Eid Al-Fitr holidays s as part of their strategy on national and religious events.

Eng. Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency cum Chairperson of Traffic Management and Operational Plans for Annual Events Committee, said, “The RTA has charted out the operational plan for public transport means and services to meet the needs of the public and road users. The aim is to deliver best services enabling the use of public or private means in a safe and smooth environment for all during the usually hectic days of Eid Al Fitr.

“The Plan aims to steer the traffic from and to Burj Khalifa district in different directions, be it from Oud Metha Street through Al Asayel Street, or through Zabeel Bridges and Happiness Street. It also covers the use of local roads of the Business Bay to access Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road to ease the pressure on the Financial Centre Street. To ensure smooth traffic flow, the traffic signals on the Financial Centre Street and Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard will be monitored and controlled to ensure maximum possible traffic flow during peak hours. Two areas have been designated as additional parking at Al Wasl Club, and Al Jafliya (nearby the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs) in case the parking slots of Dubai Mall are full. Shuttle buses will be deployed to commute riders from and to Dubai Mall and those areas.

Maitha revealed that the operational timing of the metro service during Eid Al-Fitr holidays s, starting from Friday 15 June as stated below. She noted that the service frequency timing (headway) would range from 3 to 8 minutes, depending on peak hours, and the Express Metro service would be operational as usual. As announced earlier this week, the metro and tram operational hours during the holidays s will be as follows:

“The organisational measures for bus service and taxis calls for the deployment of the largest possible number of vehicles at the pick-up and drop-off area of the Mall. Additional taxis will be directed to the area during peak hours. Alternative parking lots will be provided at the parking of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, and Al Wasl Club. Shuttle buses will commute the public from and to Burj Khalifa district, and 14 signs will be installed to direct road users to the alternative parking of Dubai Mall. In case of excessive demand for taxis at the Dubai Mall, a bus route will be opened to lift riders to Deira City Center and Burjman Metro Stations where more taxis will be in place.

“A team of high-class team of engineers and technical inspectors will be ready to fix and deal with any emergency at site during the Eid holidays  in collaboration with Dubai Police and Emaar to ensure the implementation of the operational plans and required closures. The RTA wishes all a great holidays  free from crashes,” concluded Maitha.

Brigadier Abdullah Al Ghaithi, Director of the General Department of Organizations Protective Security and Emergency cum Chairman of Events Security Committee, said, “The Events Security Committee has completed preparations for Eid Al-Fitr holidays . The Committee, which comprises several representatives of the concerned entities, has held a series of coordinative meetings to develop a joint security plan covering respective fields to secure tourist areas, malls and traffic during Eid celebrations.

“The Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police has endorsed the security plan and praised the tireless efforts of the Security Committee. Emphasis was placed on all streets as well as internal & external routes, especially arterial roads from and to the Airport, tourist areas and shopping centres. Traffic patrols will be intensively deployed to ease congestion and fend off any traffic issues that may arise due to the high traffic volumes anticipated in those areas,” added Al Ghaithi.
