(6 August 2018)
DEWA’s initiatives to highlight Sheikh Zayed’s efforts in preserving the UAE’s heritage and enhancing its national identity.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched the ‘My Culture, My Identity’ initiative under the theme ‘Zayed, our heritage, our identity” which will run from 5th – 9th August, coinciding with the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s accession day when he became ruler of Abu Dhabi on 6th August 1966. This initiative is part of DEWA’s efforts to achieve the main objectives of ‘Year of Zayed’, to commemorate the centennial of the birth of the Founding Father of the UAE. It also comes as part of DEWA’s initiatives to highlight Sheikh Zayed's efforts in preserving the UAE’s heritage and enhancing its national identity.

“At DEWA, we aim to achieve the main objectives for ‘Year of Zayed’ through initiatives and programmes that highlight the humanitarian and cultural heritage of the late Sheikh Zayed. The ‘My Culture, My Identity’ initiative highlights Sheikh Zayed's commitment to the UAE's culture and his efforts to encourage people to uphold their national identity and the noble values they were brought up on. This laid the foundation for the progress achieved by the UAE today in all fields of development, under the wise leadership of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“This annual initiative has special significance as it coincides with Sheikh Zayed's accession day, and began his journey to inspire the people, paving the way for the union of our beloved country. These efforts enabled the UAE to begin a new era in its history of achievement and work for the good of this great nation. Through this initiative, we seek to connect the present generations with their history, heritage, customs, traditions and origins, keeping in mind the country's comprehensive development in all aspects of life, powered by an inspirational centennial and ambitious plans and visions to make our blessed country one of the best in the world,” added al Tayer.

DEWA organised several events and activities during this weeklong initiative and started the celebrations by organising the activity “what do you know about the late Sheikh Zayed” for all DEWA staff, followed by sending inspirational cultural and heritage quotes by the late Sheikh Zayed to all employees. In addition to quotes by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, pertaining to the days when the late Sheikh Zayed started his reign. DEWA also organised internal activities, electronic competitions and the distribution of beverages and traditional food to all its employees.
