The event attracted many IT security managers and experts, as well as leading IT companies in the region.
Speakers included Dr. Doaa Fares, Etisalat Academy General Manager; Moustafa Sarhank, President of ISS Middle East; Mr. Vicram Suri, Symantec Middle East General Manager; Eric Van Gend, Specialist on Security and Content Delivery Networks, Cisco Systems; Mr Farouk Hassan, Marketing Manager, Comtrust, Dr. Khalid Negm, Technical Advisor of MEITSEC and Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Al Sharbini, a judge at Dubai Courts.
’The idea of holding an annual conference on IT security issues falls within Etisalat Academy’s mission to proactively promote the information technology sector locally and regionally.’ said Dr. Doaa Fares, Etisalat Academy General Manager.
’While the importance of IT security has become self-evident in the developed world, the Middle East has until now fallen short of understanding the vital need for strong IT security awareness. MEITSEC is meant to fill this gap by raising awareness among businesses and decision makers of the importance of IT security, and the need to develop a legislative framework for it,’ added Dr. Doaa.
Speakers discussed a number of legislative implications involved in IT security in the Middle East. E-commerce and e-government issues were also highlighted, especially at a time when there is a growing trend in the region to promote the use of the Internet, to invest in IT infrastructure and e-learning. E-business transactions are expected to reach $3 billion by the end of 2003.
Etisalat Academy has recently focused on IT security professional training and has teamed up with a number of leading IT security bodies and institutions in the United States and Europe. It is the Middle East representative for the training and pre-exam course of the CISSP and SSCP certifying body (ISC). |
