August will be a ‘scream’ on Dubai One this year, as the award winning channel screens a slate of classic horror movies every Friday.
The season of horrors starts on Friday, 3 August with Razorback, a cult classic about a vicious, man-eating wild pig that terrorizes the Australian outback. Television veteran Gregory Harrison stars as Carl, a man in search of his missing journalist wife, whom no one has seen since the attacks began.
On 10 August, Stephen King’s Thinner wades into even stranger territory when a lawyer is cursed by a gypsy to lose weight continuously. Starring Robert John Burke (Robocop 3) and directed by Tom Holland, who also helmed Child’s Play (starring murderous doll Chucky), this film is a must see classic.
Things become even more bizarre on 17 August, in David Cronenberg’s Oscar-nominated ode to all things weird, Dead Ringers. Womanizing twin gynecologists, both played by Jeremy Irons, fall for the same woman and give into madness. Cronenberg, also called ‘the Baron of Blood’, was the director that brought us 2005’s gruesome History of Violence.
24 August sees a screening of Waxwork, where a group of ne’er do well teens go to view a special display of waxworks, and find themselves as main feature of the exhibit! On 31 August, Dubai One will screen the most star-studded film in the series, Scream 2. Starring Neve Campbell, Jada Pinkett Smith, David Arquette, Courtney Cox and Sarah Michelle Gellar, Scream was part of the series that turned the horror genre on its head, and laughs are as plentiful as chills. However, anything directed by Wes Craven, who created the character of Freddy Krueger in Nightmare on Elm Street, is bound to be terrifying! So chill down to the bone this August only on Dubai One. |
