Dubai Industrial City Welcomes Holy Month Of Ramdan With A Special Iftar For Labourers
(21 July 2013)
Iftar is held in collaboration with Watani for 1000 labourers

Dubai Industrial City, a member of TECOM Investments and the second largest industrial real estate project in Dubai, held an Iftar on Thursday 18 July for 1000 labourers, who currently reside in the Labour Village housing inside the City.

The Iftar was hosted in collaboration with ‘Watani’, the community development program which aims at strengthening the national identity in the Emirate and practicing good citizenship among all segments of society, to recognise the essential role our labourers play in driving forward our national economy, and in recognition of the values of compassion, charity and integration during this Holy Month.

Iftar was arranged by Dubai Industrial City members, where meals were handed by 11 volunteers from Watani to the labourers. Moreover, a religious lecture was offered to labourers from Watani before Iftar, through their programme during this Holy month under the title ‘Al Qafila’. This provided the labourers with a day of spiritual and social programme.

Abdullah Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Industrial City said: "We are always keen to share the honourable values of the Holy Month of Ramadan with all our members in Dubai Industrial City. It’s also a great opportunity for us to express how we care for the workers inside Dubai Industrial City and in the whole UAE, being one of the fundamental pillars in building our beloved country."

He added: “Ramdan is a month of blessings and giving back to the society and it’s our role to spread solidarity, brotherhood and camaraderie among our workers. This year and with the support of Watani, workers were also given a religious lecture before the Iftar, which made it an ample social and spiritual experience for them.”

Dherar Belhoul, General Manager of Watani commented: “This collaboration stresses on the Emirati values of cohesion and coexistence and kindness that national and private community institutions are strengthening among all segments of society. The Holy month of Ramadan is rich in those noble values that we seek to share among nationals and residents in the Emirati community. Because labourers are one of the key pillars our economic development relies on, we wanted to recognise their efforts and hard work in moving forward the wheel of success and supporting UAE’s economy.

We are very pleased to cooperate with Dubai Industrial City on this initiative, which gave us the opportunity to participate in showing appreciation for the workers, hoping that this collaboration will result in other community initiatives that reflect these honourable principles and values."

Watani is non-profit established in 2005 under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and aims to help in community development though participation of all members of the community, in order to strengthen the national identity and deepen the concepts of good citizenship. The program includes volunteers from different age and community groups, who gathered from all the UAE to participate in educational, recreational, sports and religious activities.

It’s worthy to note that Dubai Industrial City hosts these Iftars every year for their labourers. The City is considered the largest industrial real estate project in Dubai and is spread across 55 square kilometers (560 million square feet) of land. The industrial destination was established to serve as a catalyst for the growth and expansion of the industrial sector in the United Arab Emirates - with specific emphasis on Machinery and Mechanical equipment, Transport Equipment and parts, Base Metal, Chemicals, Food and Beverage and Mineral Products.
