Dubai Police Launches ’ecrime.ae’ To Tackle Cybercrime

His Excellency Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, has launched the eCRIME platform on the Internet to receive e-crimes reports from members of the public in a smooth and convenient method through the website: www.ecrime.ae

The launch was held in cooperation with the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority TRA and , Dubai Electronic Security Center at a press conference held by His Excellency Major General Al Marri at the Gulf Information Security Expo & Conference in the presence of Colonel Saeed Al-Hajri, Director of Electronic Investigation Department at Dubai Police; Dr. Marwan Al Zarouni , Director of Information Services at Dubai Electronic Security Center; and Mr. Amer Sharaf, Director of Compliance and Cooperation at Dubai Electronic Security.

This service is launched in accordance with the Dubai 2021 Plan, where it has been agreed to come up with an e-service that allows internet users to report any suspicious online activity.

His Excellency Maj-Gen Al Marri stressed the keenness of the Dubai Police on providing innovative services in line with the strategic directions of the UAE and the future plans of the Government of Dubai in the field of smart services, pointing out that this service is provided by Dubai Police through the website so that it is available to all members of the society in an easy and smooth way to report cyberspace suspicious activities.

For his part, Colonel Saeed Al Hajari, Director of Cybercrime Department at Dubai Police, said the new service allows members of the public, private and public entities to report issues and crimes in the cyberspaces namely; suspicious E-mails, Social Media related issues, Internet Calls, Hacking, Online bullying, Cyber-extortion.

He pointed out that the launch of the service comes in line with the plan Dubai 2021, and the Department of Electronic Investigations at Dubai Police on the Internet through an easy design that serves the public and facilitates the process of receiving complaints and contribute to the rapid response by the departments and police stations according to their jurisdictions.

Colonel Al Hajari pointed out that there are only seven simple steps to submit a report via the eCRIME platform. Go to www.ecrime.ae, the first step begins by determining whether the complaint relates to cybercrime or online service, the complainant then enters their ID card and contact number, then confirms the contact number via a text message on their mobile phone, followed by filling in some personal data, and identifying the whereabouts of the defendant and then filling the details of the complaint, and finally submitting the claim.

Colonel Al Hajari said the service aims at providing true and effective measurement of cybercrime that leads to the transfer of a true picture of cybercrime, and increasing the number of complaints filed by the public and private companies electronically. The service also aims at providing efforts and time to electronic crime complainants, as well as the time and efforts of officers, investigators at police stations and the Department of E-Investigation.
