The Hottest Travel Trends in 2019
(15 May 2019)

Forget about humdrum visits to the same old places or boring package tours on beaten tracks. Exploration, empowerment, and adventure are coming to the fore, but this doesn’t mean travelers are getting away from it all. Below is a list of some of the hottest traveling trends in store for those with quest and wanderlust for adventure.

In With the Locals
Travel trends for this year involve getting in with the locals, like really getting in with them. Visiting a destination is much more than merely seeing the surroundings. Rather more and more travelers will eat, drink and hang out with the locals even in their homes. The aim is to familiarize with the place that you feel like it’s your second home.

Big In Japan
Japan is gearing up to host this year’s Rugby World Cup as well as the 2020 Olympic Games. The country is one of the trendiest places to visit. This trend is already gaining ground as travels and booking to the land of the rising sun are increasing rapidly.

Tokyo is likely the first stop for most, but today’s travelers don’t limit themselves to major towns. To keep the trend going, travelers are likely to focus on remote locations such as Okinawa island chain.

Nothing to Fear
In the past few years, media and government outlets have issued warning about various destinations. The fear significantly hurt tourism in those countries, but that has slowly changed over time.

We have witnessed a 132% increase in the number of Aussies who travel to Turkey and a 121% increase in the number of Australian travelers to the Middle East. There are no signs of the trend slowing down, so if you plan on packing your bag and jetting into the wild, remember to leave the fear at home.

Far-Flung Food
Food is a deciding factor in the choice of holiday destination you choose. This trend most likely is as a result of travelers learning culinary secrets from the locals or food-themed tours.

Those enjoying a holiday in other countries will no more rely on cookbooks written by cooks and chefs who alter recipes to suit the taste of their readers. They will learn about ingredients and how to prepare them from people who know best and have been using them all their lives.

Into the Unknown
The biggest problem for traveling to popular destinations means sharing them with thousands of other tourists. Those that have experienced London’s Tube system in summer what this means.

However, this year is the year to get away from it all, at least anything familiar. The trend that has captured the imagination of many is traveling to little-known destinations where home comfort is more than a hazy memory.

Destination Back In fashion
Tourist spots are a lot more like fashion. One day they are trending and out in the next, but you dare not to get rid of them because in time they will be all the rage again. Once-popular tourist destinations such as Zimbabwe, Kazakhstan, and Moldova will again be among the most sought-after destinations.
