Dubai Cares launches Volunteer Globally 2017
(13 June 2017)
Registration is now open through UAE Volunteer Platform

As the UAE marks Zayed Humanitarian Day, Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, has officially launched the 2017 edition of Volunteer Globally. Registration for the initiative is now open for members of the UAE community through the UAE Volunteer Platform that was launched last week by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashed Al Maktoum. This year’s edition, which is line with the UAE’s “Year of Giving 2017”, will take place between October 21 and 28 and will involve 15 volunteers from the UAE who will travel to the Kailali district in Nepal’s Far Western Region to support the locals in constructing a new school in their community.

All interested volunteers, 21 years of age and above, are encouraged to visit www.volunteers.ae to register by June 28, 2017. Dubai Cares will then shortlist 50 applicants based on the responses provided in the application, with priority given to volunteers who register first. The 50 shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in one-on-one interviews between July 17 and 24, 2017. Following the interview process, Dubai Cares will select the 15 volunteers who will participate in Volunteer Globally 2017 in Nepal.

“The UAE is a substantial contributor to development aid worldwide, owing to the vision of the UAE's forefather, His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who has instilled a set of noble values and taught us well the virtues of giving. This is also due to the strong leadership of our President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who have committed themselves to continue along the same path,” said Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Cares.

“We are happy to announce our latest edition of Volunteer Globally on the occasion of Zayed Humanitarian Day. This will be the first Dubai Cares initiative launched through the recently announced UAE Volunteer Platform. The platform, which is the largest and most thorough in the country, is a great resource to ensure volunteering in the UAE reaches maximum social impact. In the spirit of the UAE’s ‘Year of Giving 2017’, we hope that UAE residents will once again demonstrate their sense of service, compassion, and global citizenship by applying to join us on this volunteering mission,” concluded Al Gurg.,” concluded Al Gurg.

Dubai Cares Volunteer Globally is a weeklong mission to build a school in a developing country. The volunteers assist in digging, picking, mixing concrete and making bricks. Volunteers will also be able to immerse themselves into the local culture, meet families, learn local values and build positive perceptions for the local population.
The volunteers will also receive a comprehensive briefing before the trip, which will cover the ground situation in Nepal, socio-economic background as well as an overview of the activities that will be undertaken as part of the school-building mission.

Rana Awad, Marketing Manager at Dubai Cares said, “This is our 4th edition of Volunteer Globally and I have to admit, it is our most popular volunteering initiative. It provides an opportunity for our volunteers to experience the work we do in developing countries, through a rewarding and eye-opening experience. The values of commitment, adaptability and respect play a vital role in the success of Volunteer Globally.”
