Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum has ratified the results of the second edition of “Sports Events Ranking System” in Dubai for 2015-2016, an initiative launched by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) in 2014 to rank sports events according to 13 criteria and 29 key performance indicators (KPIs), and classify them under specific categories.

On this occasion, Sheikh Hamdan said that sport is a field of great interest for the UAE and at the highest level, where he referred to the progress Dubai made in building a supporting infrastructure and amenities  at international standards, at the same time where the UAE is hosting major international tournaments with the participation of international stars. 

“Sport sector is an important aspect of the society, as it represents a key element of the economic development in Dubai, as sport events organization became a standalone industry, which we allocated all factors of success including support of leadership to sport and athletes,  as well as providing the best in class sport and touristic facilities backed by an advanced and efficient transport and communication network,” Sheikh Hamdan said. ““The new Sports Events Ranking System is part of the UAE’s efforts to set new global benchmarks for excellence in every sphere of life including the sports sector, as we strive to continuously develop our sport events, which will consequently lead to sports development and associated events,” he added.

The system is an initiative launched by the Dubai Sports Council to rank events according to 13 criteria and 29 key performance indicators (KPIs). The 2015-2016 Sports Events Ranking System uses a star rating system to grade events according to the quality of their management and organization. The system also classifies the events under five categories: event development, economic development, sports development, social development and brand development.
