CBAUE’s Biggest Banking Events Of The Past Year
When it comes to major events in the UAE, there's always something for everyone, from tourists to shopaholics to music fans - and of course the hundreds of thousands of people who choose to do business in the Emirates every year. While you can of course shop 'til you drop, party into the wee hours and enjoy more world-class contemporary art than you can shake a stick at, there is also an endless and constantly rotating roster of events for those involved in both international banking and of course the UAE's burgeoning and increasingly attractive banking sector.
From world-leading forums focusing on sustainability to careers fairs offering a huge range of opportunities for Emiratis and foreigners alike, the last 12 months have been undeniably jam-packed with top-notch banking events, mostly organised by the United Arab Emirates Central Bank (CBUAE), the state bank, or in collaboration with it. Whether you were able to attend or were unlucky enough to miss out, here's our round-up of some of CBUAE's biggest events from the past year, some of which are annual events.
Careers UAE Exhibition 2018
For those Emirati jobseekers (this one is only open to the locals, sorry guys) looking to kick-start a high-powered and dynamic career in finance, CBUAE's participation in what is arguably one of the Middle East's most high-profile careers fairs definitely provided a reason not to miss out. The fair runs every year in March, usually at the Dubai World Trade Centre, and highlights some of the most attractive jobs vacancies a fresh graduate could possibly hope for. The Central Bank had their own stand at the fair, where they were offering information sessions to interested applicants on sustainable economic growth and promoting financial stability in the region. Even more interestingly, the most promising applicants were able to participate in one the spot interviews for the roles on offer. Definitely, one to watch for 2019.
Middle East Banking Forum 2017
Another high-profile event centred around confronting the global challenges faced by international finance, the Middle East Banking Forum is actually organised by the prestigious British publication the Financial Times, and the most recent forum was sponsored and co-hosted by CBUAE at the luxurious St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort in Abu Dhabi. As well as being a great chance for politicos to come together to suggest solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems, the forum also presents a chance for newcomers to learn the ropes of banking - in particular, the responsibilities, challenges and inner workings of state banks such as CBUAE. The Central Bank, like others across the globe, has a whole host of key responsibilities, from managing currency and promoting stability all the way to granting licenses to trusted forex brokers in the country for UAE residents looking for such a provider. This isn't the first time this prestigious forum chose to make the UAE their home for the weekend, and there's plenty of reason to believe this one will be coming to this neck of the woods again in the near future.
IFSB Summit 2017
Another big hitter for the region, the IFSB, A.K.A the Islamic Financial Services Board, hosts their prestigious summit every year with the aim of bringing together leading global financial players, from regulatory authorities, to central banks, to key financial heavyweights, in order to discuss how cooperation can promote stability and stimulate growth. Previous IFSB summits have taken place in Luxembourg, Turkey, Bahrain and the U.K, and last year the UAE had the honour of hosting it for the second time. The most recent summit was titled "Reinvigorating the Momentum of Islamic Finance: Solidifying Resilience and Sustaining Growth", and saw the CBUAE taking the lead role in bringing together financial bodies from across the Middle East to set some strategic priorities for the year ahead. For those who happened to be in Abu Dhabi at the time, the summit was definitely a unique opportunity not just to learn from some of the brightest and most authoritative minds in the financial sector, but also to do some next-level networking. Anyone who copped a ticket to the 2-day event in the opulent St. Regis Hotel Abu Dhabi had the chance to hobnob with the creme-de-la-creme of the banking world, including the chief executives of the state banks of the UAE, Malaysia and Mauritius, as well as a number of world-famous Western academics. This summit is the one to watch for those looking to seriously expand their Rolodex.
The United Arab Emirates plays host to a staggering number of industry-leading banking events throughout the year, and hopefully this round-up will give newcomers a solid idea of what to expect if you're making the UAE your career base, or just here for a short time.
