Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Gender Balance Council, and wife of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, congratulated Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, on the success of the conference on ‘Gender Dimensions of International Peace and Security: Keys to Prosperity and Peace’.
The event, held on Monday in Abu Dhabi, was organised in cooperation with Women In International Security (WIIS), the UN Women’s Office, General Women’s Union and TRENDS Research and Advisory. The conference attracted local and international participation.
Her Highness Sheikha Manal praised the growing role of the UAE in enhancing gender balance. She also hailed the continuous support of the UAE leadership and the encouragement extended by HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak to empower UAE women to be equal partners in national development.
Her Highness Sheikha Manal also said that holding the Summit in the UAE reflects the keenness of the country to work closely with the international community to increase the participation of women in development. She also said that the Summit highlights the keenness of the UAE to create a conducive environment for global dialogue on this topic and raise awareness on the link between gender balance and peace and security in both policy and practice.
She also said that the topics covered by the Summit are vital given the ongoing regional situation and the efforts of the UAE to ensure peace and security across the region and the world, which were initiated by the founding father of the UAE the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Her Highness Sheikha Manal praised the Summit for offering a platform to discuss diverse issues including how women can contribute better to solving key issues facing the world.
The President of the UAE Gender Balance Council said that the late Sheikh Zayed placed high priority on promoting gender balance. Furthermore, the close follow up of HH Sheikha Fatima helped empower women in the UAE and ensured they had equal access to opportunities.
She also said that the UAE Gender Balance Council will continue its drive to translate the vision of the UAE leadership into practical achievements, and further increase cooperation with international organizations as well as governmental and semi-governmental entities so that it can implement best practices and adopt new policies that can advance the UAE’s leadership in gender balance.
