The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has launched a series of Ramadan charitable initiatives with the participation of its employees in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, reflecting the sprit and values of the Holy Month, and in line with declaring the year of 2019 as the “Year of Tolerance” in the UAE. The initiatives included the “A dirham of culture... a kantar of happiness” initiative, “Al Mir Al Ramadani” initiative, and “Iftar with senior citizens”. These initiatives are aimed at various social groups such as senior citizens, families and students, and implemented in collaboration with the UAE Red Crescent.
Commenting on these initiatives, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, said: “In the holy month of Ramadan, we revive the torch of charity, which is rooted in the UAE culture, through a series of initiatives that express the thoughts and values of Emirati people. These initiatives reflect a social heritage that has been passed through generations as the Emirati people are giving and generous, adherent to the tolerance of Islam as well as the customs and traditions of the UAE society, known of cohesion, hospitality and providing help to those who need it. These values have been embodied in the great initiatives launched by our wise leadership in recent years such as the Year of Giving, The Year of Happiness, the Year of Zayed, and the Year of Tolerance. Our leadership has inspired us to love people and work to achieve their happiness. We had our role model in the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who was keen to spread the goodness all over the world. Our wise leadership has followed his approach, to make the UAE the first globally as the largest donor of development assistance with the highest ODA to Gross National Income (GNI) ratio.”
Moreover, TRA launched the initiative “A dirham of culture... a kantar of happiness”, dedicated to books donation. The initiative aims to encourage the spirit of sharing among employees, through donating books to TRA, so the latter could re-sell them for ‘one dirham’. The proceeds of this initiative will go to students’ support through the UAE Red Crescent. This initiative is expected to collect hundreds of books on various topics such as technology, history literature, poetry, political science, and children’s’ literature. The initiative received great response from the TRA employees, whether through donations or purchasing the books.
TRA also launched the “Al Mir Al Ramadani” initiative, aiming to collect food baskets for disadvantaged families. TRA has collected 175 food baskets that included essential food items that any family would need during Ramadan.
Furthermore, TRA organized “Iftar with senior citizens” with the participation of TRA employees, in order to deepen the concept of social responsibility, consolidate the values and principles of care and connection, enhance the bonds between the segments of society, and in recognition of the senior citizens’ role since the establishment of the country to this day.
TRA organizes charitable and social initiatives every year, aiming at enhancing love and unity and promoting the values of tolerance and giving, to reflect the particularity of the UAE society that is considered a global model for tolerance and humanity through the presence of more than 200 nationalities living in the country in harmony and coherence.
