Introduction to UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a young country, with a rich heritage and a modern cosmopolitan culture perfectly combining the best of the new world with the warmth of traditional Arabian hospitality. It was formed in 1971 from seven formerly independent states – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

Abu Dhabi The capital of the nation Abu Dhabi, Arabic for father of the gazelle, is the federal capital of the United Arab Emirates. It is a beautiful and modern garden city lined with wide boulevards, green parks and bubbling fountains, the city of Abu Dhabi is a part of the large emirate with the same name.

Dubai A Cosmopolitan City of Contrasts with its modern skyline and comprehensive infrastructure, Dubai offers visitors all the benefits of a cosmopolitan city - combined with the magic of ancient Arabia. It is precisely this contrast that makes it a truly unique destination. Divided in two by the Dubai Creek, Dubai is totally geared to the needs of the modern traveller.

Sharjah Art and culture are dominant influences in Sharjah, and its universities, libraries, museums and mosques celebrate a heritage that has evolved over many centuries. The emirate is home to over 30 museums and heritage sites, including the largest arts museum in the region. On the nature trail, Sharjah boasts a desert park, a wildlife park, a natural history museum and a host of beautiful public gardens.

Ajman A charming emirate and the smallest of the seven, Ajman is situated along a natural creek. The golden sandy beaches contrast with the majestic Hajar Mountains and it boasts the world’s largest dhow building yard.

Umm Al Quwain Situated on the coastline, Umm Al Quwain is renowned for its long clean beaches, an enclosed lagoon and public horse riding stables. Attractions in the emirate include the fully renovated UAQ Fort and Museum, Dreamland Aquapark and Falaj Al Mualla – a natural oasis.

Ras Al Khaimah Meaning the ‘top of the tent’ in Arabic, the northern most emirate of the UAE it is also one of the most picturesque. Ras Al Kahaimah is surrounded by sea, desert and mountains which combine to offer the visitor a perfect setting for both relaxation and adventure.

Fujairah Nestled between the lunar landscapes of the Hajar Mountains and sandy white beaches is the emirate of Fujairah. The rich marine environment and crystal clear waters makes it a favourite of water sports enthusiasts and biologists alike. Picturesque fishing villages, ancient forts and museums, pottery stalls and the UAE’s smallest mosque make Fujairah a charming spot to visit.
