Dubai Summer Surprises runs from 19 June to 22 August 2008. Non-stop excitement, adventure and entertainment is lined up for the entire duration of the Dubai Summer Surprises. Into its eleventh year, Dubai Summer Surprises has come a long way by building on the successes of the previous editions and aims to create a benchmark for future years to provide the three most important characteristics of the event - shopping, winning, and entertainment. Dubai Summer Surprises is held every year under the patronage of H.H.General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of Dubai and Vice President of the U.A.E. With the support of key sponsors, comprising of local corporations and multinationals, DSS features unique activities spread throughout the summer season. Shopping malls are converted into venues for live entertainment, music, dancing, competitions, workshops and numerous interactive programs. The number of growing visitors and the expenditure levels are clear indicators of the popularity and success of DSS. Dubai Summer Surprises as a venture has contributed significantly to the economy of Dubai and continues to do so by enhancing different economic sectors during a lean period of economic activity in summer. An increase in visitor expenditure from AED 850 million in 1998 to AED 3.21 billion in 2007 is a clear indication of the event’s ability to drive economic growth during summer.
