Cards Middle East
A market with immense potential The popularity of credit and debit cards in Middle East and North African countries continues to grow, with countries within the GCC proving to be one of the most profitable markets for issuers. However, with the Gulf remaining a predominantly cash-based society, there is still great potential for growth. The market is not just growing, but evolving. 2008 saw new launches in co-branded cards and attractive loyalty and reward schemes, and retail banks are looking into alternative payment methods such as NFC, contactless and prepaid cards. The conference and exhibition, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary in the Arab region this year, is the largest cards and payments technology conference and exhibition in the Middle East. The exhibition takes place from 18-19 May with the briefing days and conference sessions running from 17-20 May.
