WETEX 2017 attracts key industry players
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organises the 19th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2017, with the theme ‘At the Forefront of Sustainability,’ to translate the vision of the wise leadership of the UAE to transform into green economy and achieve sustainable development. WETEX takes place under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA, from 23 to 25 October at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC). This year’s WETEX is the largest and biggest for exhibition space and the number of participating countries, exhibitors and sponsors.
The 19th WETEX shows its leading position as a global platform that brings together decision-makers, experts, and officials from around the world, to exchange experiences, enhance collaboration, build partnerships, and learn about the latest innovations, technologies and projects in the fields of traditional and renewable energy, water and the environment, as well as rationalisation, sustainability, green buildings, electric vehicles, charging stations, and smart networks. The exhibition is organised under the umbrella of Green Week, in conjunction with the second Dubai Solar Show and the fourth World Green Energy Summit (WGES), during which over 60 speakers from all over the world will focus on key topics, such as Smart Cities, Green Economy, Innovation, and Sustainable Development. Covering a surface area of over 70,000 square metres, WETEX 2017 will play host to 2,000 exhibitors from 50 different countries,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and Founder and Chairman of WETEX.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and President and Founder of WETEX, announced the completion of all preparations, confirming full readiness to launch the new edition of WETEX, which has become a world-class, integrated specialised event that pays great attention to supporting the path of sustainability, and an important annual platform to showcase the latest technologies and a destination for decision makers, investors and business visitors from around the world.
“WETEX supports the nation’s efforts to strengthen the UAE’s global leadership on the global map of green economy and sustainable development. The significance of WETEX stems from its focus on the latest solutions and technologies related to clean and renewable energy and the important fields that embodies the wise vision of our leadership and supports the objectives of the national Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to transform the country into a global hub for exporting, and re-exporting green products and technologies; and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to make Dubai a global centre of clean energy and green economy through providing 7% of Dubai's total power output from clean energy by 2020, 25% by 2030, and 75% by 2050,” Al Tayer added.
Al Tayer said that Dubai has rapidly become a global model in clean energy, as its sectors are all focusing on further contributing to sustainable development, pointing out that DEWA is implementing ambitious initiatives to increase reliance on solar energy. He added that DEWA continues to develop major projects for renewable and clean energy in Dubai, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, Shams Dubai initiative to connect solar photovoltaic systems in the buildings to DEWA’s network, and the Green Charger initiative to establish infrastructure and electric vehicle charging stations.
