The DSKC (and hot squad) look forward to welcoming the athletes (from 24 countries no less) who are pouring into Dubai for the 2010 Dubai Shamaal this weekend. The race is scheduled to start at 2pm Dubai time on Friday 3 December. Live commentary will be posted on www.surfski.info. Program of Events Thursday December 2nd 9:00am - 11:00am - Extended Race Registration 4:00pm - 6:00pm - Dragon boat race in cooperation with Dubai Diggers. Come and join the fun, we will have a dragon boat paddle in the Marina Dragon boaters vs. surfskiers, big trophy and money prize! Bragging rights are on the line! All afternoon - Ski trailer run to the Palm, remember to book your slot (list on notice board). 6:00pm - Official Race Registration. Club Mina, Le Meridian Mina Seyahi - Beach Road 6:30pm - Paddle for the Planet presentation by Dawid Mocke 7:00pm - Screening of "End of the line" by Rupert Murray 7:45pm - Shawarma and beer Friday December 3rd 11:00am - Race briefing at Club Mina (attendance compulsory) 12noon - Buses depart from Club Mina 2:00pm - RACE START 4:30pm - 5:00pm - Last skis in (ongoing interview with paddlers) 6:00pm - Dinner starts 6:30pm - Welcome by Saeed Hareb and Sid Bensalah Shamaal prize giving 6:45pm - Prize giving 7:15pm - DJ by Desert Collective Race Rules & Regulations The following rules and regulations have been prepared following a review of the Mens Health Series and ARB Rules. GENERAL 1. The course will be selected by the race organizing committee 24 to 48 hours before the event. 2. Race is predominantly a down wind race. Beach finish will be as close as possible to the waterline. 3. The race is primarily for Single Skis but doubles are welcome. 4. Distance – 20km long course and a 10 km short course. 5. Before the Race Briefing, a three (3) persons Committee (Race Referee and 2x Race Organizers) may be appointed to deal with all disputes, changes to rules during the race, etc. 6. Any dispute / appeal must be lodged in writing within 10 min of the appellant finishing the event. A deposit of AED100 which is not refundable if appeal is turned down is required. Race committee’s decision is final after a hearing has been held where the appellant has his say and the race committee calls in the required witnesses. SAFETY 1. Organizers reserve the right to request that paddlers must have a kayak life jacket and leash for emergency use, which must be attached to the competitor during the race; 2. Organizers reserve the right to request that paddlers wear Personal Floatation Devices (PFD) that are able to float 6kg dead weight. 3. If a paddler does not offer assistance to another paddler in distress, they may be disqualified from that race. 4. The Race Referee or Safety Referee may decide whether a competitor should be prevented from continuing the race at any time. 5. It is the onus of all competitors to cross the finish line or advise the organizers that they have withdrawn from the event. AED100 fine to any paddler who does not sign in or give in number to the time keepers. 6. It is the onus of the organizers to institute a search for any competitor who had not crossed the finish line or advised of his withdrawal. 7. The costs of this search may be borne by the competitor who had withdrawn and not notified the organizers. 8. A time limit may be announced for the day. The time limit may be lengthened at the discretion of the Race Referee. REGISTRATION 1. All competitors are required to complete a race application form and pay the required registration fee. 2. Race fees are payable by PayPal or cash (in AED, directly to the Race Coordinator) at time of registration. 3. Race Entries for local UAE paddlers are to be completed during the week before the race, details for registration will be posted on the Dubai Shamaal race website. 4. Race Entries for international paddlers are to be completed prior to the race, details for registration will be posted on the Dubai Shamaal race website. 5. No entries may be considered on the day of the race and the race committee reserves the right to stop any paddler not registered from starting the race. SPONSORSHIP AND BRANDING 1. Sponsorship of individual skis may be allowed, provided those sponsors do not clash with the Race Sponsor and must be first cleared through the Race organizing committee. Anyone not complying may not be allowed to start the race. 2. Competitors must wear the clothing supplied and display all stickers in the positions shown within the race registration pack. 3. The only number displayed on the Surf Ski must be that provided by the race organizers. Prize Money Total prize money for Dubai Shamaal is US$60,000.Website: http://www.dubaishamaal.com/index.php
