(25 April 2016)

Marking the UNSECO’s World Heritage Day observed on the 18th of April every year, Dubai Customs celebrated this day with employees introducing a series of folk and educational activities. Both HE Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Dubai Customs Director and HE Manabile Shogole, Consul-General of the Republic of South Africa, attended the ceremony which highlighted varying aspects of the cultural heritage of UAE, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Oman and South Africa.

“We are always keen on emphasizing the UAE’s national identity and the importance of celebrating such global cultural events that further position Dubai’s as a melting pot of different cultures. The coming together of delegations from several participating countries allows for  enriching cultural exchanges, consistent with the UNESCO’s enshrined objectives” said Dubai Customs Director.

HE. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih expressed high appreciation to the Diplomatic Ladies Association of Dubai and Northern Emirates for their cooperation in holding this event, as well as to the South African Consul-General for being part of the celebration activities.

HE Ahmed Mahboob Musabih and South Africa’s Consul General in Dubai toured the various heritage attractions and exhibition stands, each representing a certain country’s tradition and displaying its local products and food.

The Corporate Communication Department’s Director at Dubai Customs Mr Khalil Saqer bin Gharib commented, “Celebrating World Heritage Day reflects Dubai Customs’ keen commitment to upholding the Emirati heritage and seeking to maintain and impart its values to younger generations.”

Each participating country took part in a customized pavilion highlighting their own heritage and history. Traditional cuisine was also served besides live folklore performances which included the Emirait Ayala, Jordanian and Palestinian Dabke and a Tanoura dance show by the Egyptians. The south African participation showcased genuine handcrafts and garments and the Omanis served their fresh famous desert to all visitors.
