Expo 2020’s Leading Worker Standards Celebrated At Better Together Awards
(12 December 2019)
Second annual awards recognised winners across 16 categories from more than 200 submissions

Part of the legacy of Expo 2020 Dubai is set to be its lasting positive effect on health and safety and worker welfare standards in the UAE and the wider region, a journey that reached its latest landmark last night with the second annual Better Together Awards 2019.

Celebrating an exemplary year in Expo 2020’s continuing commitment to raising the bar for such standards, the awards brought together the cream of the construction and service provider industry at The Address Montgomerie in Dubai.

They recognised the successes of individuals and organisations involved in the delivery of Expo 2020 in achieving an exemplary health and safety performance, providing the workforce with good standards of accommodation and ensuring world-class employment practices.

Judges from Expo 2020 and external industry bodies selected winners and highly commended entrants from 207 high-quality submissions across 16 awards categories, including awards for initiatives, individuals and organisations.

Entrants came from across the diverse range of organisations – including contractors, subcontractors, third-party developers, design and supervision consultants, project managers and service providers – currently working together to make The World’s Greatest Show a reality.

The ceremony was attended by more than 300 people, including Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General, Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau, and members of the Expo 2020 Dubai Sub-Committee on Worker Welfare.

The awards were first launched in 2018, with 125 submissions across 12 categories.

More than 160 million work hours have been completed to date on the Expo 2020 site, with 34,000 workers currently on site. At the peak of construction, there were 40,000 workers on site.
