Launched in Sep’09 (09/09/09), the Dubai Metro has made Dubai a true Metro-polis. Joining the big league of cities like New York, London and Paris, Dubai is the first city from the Gulf region to embark a metro. The Dubai Metro is also the world’s longest automated driverless train system launched in a record time of four years. It is estimated to carry 1.8 million passengers per day by 2020. A part of the Dubai Vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, The Dubai Metro has reportedly exceeded expectations within three days of its launch when almost 105,000 people taking the train the first weekend. For the residents of Dubai who have faced the traffic of the main nerve Sheikh Zayed Road where most of the offices are located, Metro has come as a blessing. With stations conveniently located at every strategic point on the busy Sheikh Zayed Road, Metro has suddenly become the way of life. It not only helps beat the traffic but also with a train every three minutes during the busy office hours, it’s the convenience which is helping people make the transition to the metro life. |
