(16 September 2016)

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received Matthias Altendorf, CEO of Endress + Hauser, during DEWA’s Smart Building event, organised in cooperation with the Swiss Business Council. Al Tayer and Altendorf discussed enhancing cooperation to boost innovation, improving network availability and safety, reducing operational costs, supervising the quality of water, monitoring water losses, and strategic reserves for emergency situations. They also discussed cooperating to provide DEWA’s staff and contractors with technical education.

The meeting was held in the presence of Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President for Strategy and Business Development at DEWA, Marwan Bin Haider, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future at DEWA, and both Jens Winkelmann, Managing Director, and David Hewitt, Sales Director at Endress + Hauser.

Al Tayer welcomed Altendorf, noting the cooperation in energy and water projects, between DEWA and Swiss companies. “DEWA works to achieve the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai; and the Dubai Plan 2021, to transform Dubai into a city of happy, creative, and empowered people, while at the same time, working to achieve our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. DEWA contributes to sustainable development in Dubai, enhancing the prosperity and growth of the UAE on all levels. DEWA has adopted a strategy to enhance its water services, to meet all requirements for development, and achieve the happiness and well-being of all Dubai’s residents.

This adheres to the framework, implemented to expand water pipelines and their distribution capacities, to increase the efficiency of infrastructure, allowing for the efficient transmission and distribution, to meet the needs of consumers, developers, and other sectors in Dubai,” said Al Tayer.

“DEWA exerts all efforts to meet the increasing demand for water and electricity in the Emirate, providing a high-quality infrastructure for Dubai’s sustainable development, based on the highest international standards. In terms of benchmarking, DEWA’s competitive results have surpassed private companies by increasing the efficiency of energy production, using the latest technologies, and adopting innovative technologies. DEWA has surpassed leading European and American companies by reducing losses in power transmission and distribution networks to 3.3%, compared to 6-7% in Europe and the USA. Water network losses decreased to 8.2%, compared to 15% in North America, achieving global results in reducing water losses,” added Al Tayer.

Towards the end of the meeting, Altendorf commended the progress made in the Emirate, and DEWA’s efforts to enhance Dubai’s international position, while working to provide world-class infrastructure, and water and electricity services, at the highest levels of credibility, accountability, and availability.
