(11 December 2016)

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received a high-level delegation from Tractebel Lahmeyer. The delegation included Daniel Develay, CEO of Tractebel Engineering, Michael Wünnemann, Executive Director of Energy Division at Lahmeyer International, and Alan Fanerom, Executive Director of Tractebel International.

The visit aimed to enhance cooperation in renewable energy solutions and technologies, and energy generation. The delegation was briefed about DEWA’s successful experiences and best international practices, in addition to DEWA’s ongoing projects and initiatives that were launched to support the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and to enhance DEWA’s position as a role model for achieving the highest standards of energy efficiency and increasing dependence on renewable energy.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer welcomed the delegation, highlighting DEWA’s electricity and water infrastructure, built to ensure economic, environmental, and social stability. This contributes towards Dubai’s transformation into the happiest and most sustainable city in the world.

Al Tayer discussed the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is the largest single-site solar park in the world with a planned capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030 with a total investment of AED 50 billion. Al Tayer also briefed the delegation on the expansion of the M-Station for electricity generation and water desalination, the 2,400 megawatt (MW) Hassyan clean coal power station, based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) procurement model. The plant will be the first-of-its-kind in the region and is fully-compliant with the highest international standards, adopting the use of ultra-supercritical technology. Al Tayer discussed the Smart Dubai initiative, with a focus on Smart Grids and Smart Meters. The delegation expressed their interest in DEWA’s ongoing projects.
