“Estonia and the United Arab Emirates have much in common. We are both young nations that have rapidly developed. There are also a lot of similarities in the innovative and creative ways in which both our governments are run,” said Al Tayer, talking to officials.
“In Dubai, we work towards achieving the Smart Dubai initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest city in the world. Such visits help us benchmark our progress and exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices.”
“During his visit to Dubai last October, Taavi Rõivas, Prime Minister of Estonia observed that, “There are several things that we can learn from Dubai and there are many ICT solutions used by Estonia that could be used in Dubai,”” added Al Tayer.
“I am pleased to be here following my team’s visit last January. The visit was a fruitful one and supported DEWA’s commitment to exchanging knowledge, information and skills with other international organisations in its continuous efforts to keep up to date with the latest technologies and solutions.”
“DEWA is always interested in discovering developments in international technology to further broaden our horizons. We seek to improve partnerships with other international organisations by making use of their knowledge, while helping them to develop their innovative technology to improve our services. This is an important requirement to help us to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by His Highness, with targets to generate 75% of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy by 2050, generating 7% by 2020 and 25% by 2030. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar park will support this, by generating 1,000 megawatts by 2020 and 5,000 megawatts by 2030. This will be the largest single-site project of its kind in the world.”
“These are ambitious goals that require partnerships with international experts in energy, water and environment. So, I am sure that we can learn from each other and further develop our countries not only for us but also for generations to come,” continued Al Tayer.
During the visit, DEWA staff met with officials from the Estonian Information System Authority, the Centre for Registries and Information Systems, the ICT Policy and Governance Office, Elektrilevi, Estonia’s electricity utility where the delegation reviewed the smart distribution network and smart metering projects, Elering, the national grid company, and officials from smart service and ICT private companies.
