Ibrahim Hamza Al-Qasim, the mission's Deputy Project Manager for Strategic Planning, opened the discussion by introducing Sarah Amiri and exploring her various accomplishments as a leading Emirati engineer and an inspirational woman. Ibrahim asked Sarah to explain the importance of the Hope Mars Mission project, as well as the role of the newly-formed Council of UAE Scientists.
Sarah Amiri, who is currently Emirates Mars Mission Science Team Lead, said: “Space programs are unique because developing them requires utilizing all types of engineers and knowledge in various sectors. In order to develop successful space programs, we will need to train and develop scientists from various fields which will enrich our knowledge economy. By working on enhancing our science sector, we are working to develop an economy that is less dependent on oil and more sustainable.”
Recently appointed as the Head of the Council of UAE Scientists, Sarah discussed the role of the new Council. She said: “Our government has made a remarkable shift recently and the change that made me the happiest was the formation of the Council of UAE Scientists. The role of the Council is to be the link between everyone in the sciences and to provide the necessary tools and the right environment to create the next generation of Emirati scientists with opportunities in every sector.”
