Ministry Of Climate Change And Environment, Ministry Of Economy, Dubai Municipality Meet With Livestock Traders Ahead Of Eid Al Adha

The Ministry Of Climate the Change And the Environment (MOCCA), In Collaboration With The Ministry Of Economy (MOE 's ) And Dubai , Municipality ( the DM), Organized of a Meeting With Livestock Traders Today At The Dubai , the Birds And Pets market to inspect the processes in place for   receiving inbound livestock consignments ahead of Eid Al Adha and ensure the readiness of the relevant work teams at MOCCAE and DM to meet the increased demand.

Speaking on the preparations for the coming Eid celebrations, His Excellency Sultan Alwan, Assistant Undersecretary of the Regions Sector at MOCCAE, said: "Eid Al Adha is a peak season for inbound livestock consignments to the UAE. In the smoothest possible way, MoCCAE has a comprehensive plan in place. As part of this plan, we deploy more doctors at veterinary quarantines as well as veterinary lab technicians, and extend working hours to facilitate and expedite procedures. "

His Excellency Alwan reiterated that MOCCA implements strict veterinary quarantine procedures to protect animals from epidemic and contagious diseases that can spread to humans. He noted that to meet this priority, the Ministry ensures that laws regulating trade of livestock are strictly enforced, while also removing all barriers to trade flow.

For his part, Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Consumer Protection Department at the MOE, said that the Ministry is raising up for the busy Eid Al Adha season.

"Today, we met with primary livestock suppliers and encouraged them to ensure adequate supply of sacred animals ahead of the festive season of Eid Al Adha.

He added that the MOE has introduced a consumer monitoring initiative that invites consumers to report any price hikes to regulatory bodies by calling 600-522-225 or the numbers of relevant local departments.

Zuhoor Al Sabbagh, Director of Public Health Services Department at DM, said: "To accommodate the large number of incoming livestock ahead of Eid Al Adha, we have confirmed the readiness of our veterinary quarantine and labs as well as abattoirs. We have also deployed more doctors at veterinary quarantines and veterinary lab technicians and extended their working hours at various livestock markets in Dubai. "

The UAE has received nearly 5,700 cows and 750,000 sheep so far in 2018, all of which have undergone veterinary quarantine and clinical and lab tests to ensure they are disease-free and safe for consumption.
