2008 – eTrendz
According to a recent study on trendspotting published by JWT, 2008 will see the addition of the following to our digital lexicon, call it issues, phenomenon or shifts that will change our lives in more ways than one.
Emergence of e-clutter consultants – Specialists who will help cut the chase and navigate through the maze of email messages that bombard the inbox at 2x speed of lightning.
Email Etiquette – room for a university
Facebook suicide - the decision to drop out of a social network
Couch Surfing – Laptops will replace notebooks
Mobulimia - addiction to mobile devices.
Virtual Gifting – signed, sealed and delivered virtually
Advent of the third screen – seemingly the web, after the TV and the mobile explosion
GPhone mobile technology – by Google will make the iPhone look prehistoric (exaggeration intentional!)
Wannabe young Internet entrepreneurs – Copycats
SNS: Social Network Service – Move over SMS
Here are some of my own predictions:
- Saturation of WWW Domains - Sedo will rule
- Broadband on the tap - High speed connectivity will be a given
- e-psychologists - psychologists, specializing in treating web addiction
- Virtual Pets - Pikachu san
- Intellectual Luxury - Google in a box
- Skype - Here to s(t)ay
- Hard to find and hard to keep - Knowledge workers
