Digital Revolution to Transform Lives, Businesses and Global Economy

Companies must embrace the digital revolution because the technology of today has the potential to transform lives, businesses and the global economy. Innovative ’disruptive’ technologies such as M2M, mobile internet, cloud technology and next generation genomics have changed the way we access information and communicate with the world around us, said Abdulla Hashim, Senior Vice President, Digital Services, Etisalat UAE. Hashim made these comments during his keynote at the 7th IDC CIO Summit being held in Dubai on 24-25 February, 2014. Etisalat is as summit partner at the region’s foremost gathering of CIOs in the Middle East. The annual IDC CIO Summit will see more than 300 industry professionals converge to hear a discussion on the new types of challenges faced by CIOs as a result of third platform technologies - the cloud, big data, mobility and social media. Hashim said: "Technology is penetrating every aspect of our daily lives impacting both businesses and the global economy. Today, we see many rapidly evolving, potentially transformative technologies on the horizon spanning biological sciences, material science, energy, and other fields. "Such technologies have the ability to drive disruption, and innovation and create opportunities in all areas of business and society. They represent new ways of doing things, and, once mastered, create lasting change, which businesses and cultures do not unlearn. The internet has transformed the use of the traditional telecommunication infrastructure and highlighted the evolution of fast, powerful and smart devices that enable users to perform a multitude of tasks." He also identified eight key technologies that could drive economic transformations and disruptions in the coming years - automation of knowledge work, mobile internet, the internet of things (M2M), cloud technology, autonomous and near-autonomous vehicles, next-generation genomics, 3D printing and advanced materials. Sudhir Menon, Senior Manager, Security Services, Etisalat UAE will also participate in a session on 25 February, 2014 focusing on ’Emerging Threat Landscape’ in the Middle East. Taking place at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai, the IDC Middle East CIO Summit 2014 is the market’s leading platform for CIOs from across the region’s largest organisations to acquire insights, leverage trends and interact with peers and industry leaders to fortify their business technology strategies.
